What is public hire taxi insurance?

As a public hire taxi, you are able to pick up anyone whenever you like, wherever you like, any day. You will be able to pick customers up from where you please, such as the airport, train station or any other public place without them being pre-booked, as long as it is within the area you are licensed to.

Private hire taxi drivers on the other hand are only able to pick up customers that have been booked in beforehand.

When taking out taxi insurance it is essential that you select the right policy for your needs otherwise your cover may be invalid. For example, if you take out private hire taxi insurance you would not be covered if you decided to pick up a passenger that hailed you in the street.
